Biocentric Universe and Koan -- A Synergistic View

"We don't see the things as they are, we them as we are" - Anais Nin. What a beautiful quote (as I see it!)

Recently, I came across a very exciting concept called Biocentric Universe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/- Biocentric_universe) As you can read in the Wikipedia article, this concept argues that  (once again - as I see it!) - the Universe, as we know it, isn't the only reality of Universe. It just one FORM of Universe.

He further argues to support this concent by giving two examples.

One, if a tree falls in a forest, and there is no one around - then the noise that that tree fall makes, actually does not happen because there is no one to listen to it. It means there is noise of tree fall only and only if someone is there to hear it. The same way the colors of the things that we see - the animals see different colors in the same things because of the difference in the bodily system. So, whose view of the world is right, ours' or animals'.
It is also well known that dogs can hear the noise of fire crackers much more than us. Then, which is the ultimate desible level of that fire crackers' noise- the one which we hear or the one that dogs hear??

This concept is much more in depth than I can discuss here. But, while researching this, I could find some coorelation with something called KOAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/- K%C5%8Dan). A Koan is a kind of riddle or a dialogue which provokes great thinking process of one and helps one to ultimately leading to Enlightenment. For example, What is the sound of one hand clapping? There are no answers to Koans - no logic behind them. It is the process that is important that one goes through while searching for an answer to a Koan. Some people try to answer Koans as can be seen in the following links though I personally do not agree with such analysis

1. http://www.huna.or- g/html/onehand.html

2. http://- www.whyfaith.com/2006/08/30/if- -a-tree-falls-in-a-forest-ridd- le-answered/

This type of analysis, though one has full right to carry out, but as per my personal opinion, does not serve any purpose.
Because answers to Koans don't matter, but what you learn while trying to look for their answers matters.

If you look at the second link above, it refers to a Koan which talks about a tree falling in jungle and making a sound and so on. You will find a striking similarity to an example used in third paragraph to explain the Biocentric Universe.

My argument, based on above background, is that both Science and Philosophy seek the truth. Slowly and gradually, I have developed an udnerstanding that EVERYTHING IS PART OF ONE WHOLE (the aritlcle 'A' has been intentionally dropped)- and in fact, there is only ONE WHOLE.  And that the answers to all questions lie in our mnds. Never Mind. (Once again, please remember that's how I see it!). To seek the answer of the questions, who am I?, and Why am I here?  etc. are somewhere lying within us. Unless and until we understand that we are all part of a UNIVERSALLY COMBINED CONCIOUSNESS - we will only get fragmented answers to our question. Something like VASUDEV KUTUMBKAM (The Whole World is a Family).

Although the Biocentric Universe is still at infant level, it strikes many similarities with principles of many philosophical schools of thoughts and we can only
hope  it will come up with THEORY OF EVERYTHING to anwer all our questions....

Thus, both Biocentric Universe and Koan help us to lead to final and one conclusion that the ultimate truth is the conciousness and nothing else...

While The Biocentric Universe tries to address the issue scientifically and directly, Koans probably help us develop the same understanding by means of riddles and thinking.

Long Live Koans and May all the Koans remain unanswered!!!!

Final Words - There is a Zen saying, "Before Enlightenment chop wood carry water, after Enlightenment, chop wood carry water."(http://www.interludere- treat.com/meditate/chop.htm)
