Is young India ready to LEAD INDIA-the IIT way?

The stage is set. The heroes are ready to go at each other as the judges and the wide range of public voting through SMS/phone lines will decide the fate of the Lead India movement by Times of India. R K Mishra from Bangalore and Devang Nanavati from Gujarat [not only Ahmedabad mind you?] are left. Who wins will be decided within a few days but the question that I always feel needs to be discussed is whether this contest will give us an ethical leader.

There are thousands of theories on leadership and yet it is one of the most widely researched topics by Social Scientists, Behaviour Analysts, Psychologists and so on. But, we can really assume safely that one of the most critical attributes of a successful leader is the ethical behaviour and the TRUST he has from his followers.

Now, any one, whether R K Mishra or Devang Nanavati, whoever emerges the winner of this contest will have to prove this too. The reason for this is clear-whoever emerges as the winner of the Lead India movement-will be thankful to Times of India! There are chances that the Times of India may control them-or atleast influence them in their decision making. In future, we may have a Prime Minister who is controlled by the English media. This will really be a reason for worry as media which is running a parallel government in India, may even feel more empowered by this and may affect some of the crucial policies of this country-ranging from defense to foreign policies.

Therefore, the winner of the Lead India contest will have to ensure that he maintains a rational approach if he succeeds as a politician in this country. He will have to display the consitent behaviour which allows people to trust him. He will have to ensure he does not become the puppet of the Times of India.

I really hope that whoever wins Lead India will definitely present a face of new generation of politicians in India and will ensure that more and more youth enters the active politics in India.

I am sure he will truly justify 'TUM CHALO TO HINDUSTAN CHALE' .....

Now let us discuss one more dimension of the youth entering in active politics in India. The political party established by IIT students/alumni. The name of the party is PARITRANA. The members' details are:
==================================================================
"Giving up handsome pay packages, comfort of family and support of friends wasn’t that easy," says Tanmay Rajpurohit, the national president of the party and B Tech in aerospace from IIT Bombay followed by an MS from GeorgiaTech and double masters in arts."But my inner voice told me that I should invest my efforts in my country rather than making my pockets heavier," said Ajit Ashwalayan Shukla, vice president of the party.
"People think we are crazy so much so that our families have also failed tounderstand our motto, but we won’t give up," he added.The core team of "Paritrana" comprises Rajpurohit , Shukla, Amit Beesen, also the vice president and a B Tech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay and a LLB graduate, Chandrashekhar (national treasurer), B Tech (computer science) from IIT Kanpur, Bharat Sundaram, the PRO of the party and B Tech from IIT Kanpur and PhD in electronics from Melbourne.

These things show that at least a movement has started in this country ACTIVELY whereby the youth is trying its best to enter the politics of India. This is very crucial given the fact we are a very young nation in terms of democracy as well as in terms of average age of the Indians. I am sure these momentums will futher become more powerful in future and will ensuer that the youth ultimately rules the politics. Our young team in cricket won the Twenty Twenty World Cup, the same way, we can expect heroics in politics from the younsters-though-politics does require a fair amount of maturity and experience which we can always seek from our to be retired politicians at times! Current politicans should retire and should guide the young leaders.

Best of Luck India!
