The HOAX Story

Hi Friends. How are you? I am fine. As usual, it has been too longgggggggggggggg that I have posted a blog entry. Actually, a lot of ideas do keep coming to mind, but I thought I would pick up a topic which may be useful to my readers (at least, in terms of new information).

There are multiple sources from where we read now a days. Be it books, newspapers, magazines, journals. One addition to it has been the Internet. Right? One more source of this is the e-mails that keep moving around.

Many of such emails make very vague and useless claims-sometimes wrong claims. Like, if you open a particular email it will format your hard disk or if you drink a particular brand of soft drink (I don't know about hard drink as I don't drink hard drink!) contains so and so viruses and that such warning has been released by so and so hospital or talking on mobile through a particular ear will less damage your braincells! GENERALLY BY AND LARGE MANY OF US(NOT ALL) ---what do we do? We get panic over such emails and simply forward them to a few people (sometimes to a few hundred to a few thousand). And because emails are free and fast, such mails spread like wild fire.

Such emails are called HOAX mails. They are written with the soul intention of creating panic and spreading wrong information. Well, as an informed reader, here is what you can do to ensure you are not affected by such email.

1. Whenever such emails are there in your mailbox, simply check if they are hoax or not. Many websites (like one is http://www.hoax-slayer.com) offer information on the same.

2. If such an email is received at your end, inform the sender that it is a hoax so that his/her knowledge is updated.

The advantage of such a practice is that you can always find out if whatever you read is correct or not. Remember, be like a detective reader - now blindly trust whatever you read in emails / on websites - crosscheck its validity and reliability. Because, anyone can write anything in their blogs/websites (which does not happen in journals). So blindly trusting such writing may lend you in trouble.
