The Bravest Warrior of War of The Mahabharata "Baliyadev"

-
I was recently surprised to learn that many of us (including me at times, of course) do not know a lot of things about the Indian religious scriptures (The Hindu Scriptures by and large). I don't like the word mythology. It is derogatory and fails to convey the true spirit of the great scriptures like The Ramayana and The Mahabharata.  It gave an idea to write some blogs on certain unknown aspects of the great Hindu religion. Mind you, I am not, neither do I claim to be, an expert of The Hinduism. But yes, my curiosity and compilation should allow me to write a reasonably valid piece of text on these aspects.  So, today, I have decided to write an introduction of a character called "Baliyadev" from The Mahabharata.  He is  also known as Khatushyam / Barbaric / Barbarik / Belarsen / Akash Bhairav / Yalambar / Lakha-Datari etc.  Now, the problem for Lord Krisha was that the army of the Kauravas was definitely more powerful than that of the Pandavas. ...

"They may be blind from their eyes, but actually their vision for life is far more clear than mine..." Similar thoughts blew my mind when I visited the Blind People's Association, Ahmedabad on July 17, 2008 as a part of my FDP at IIMA. When we were informed that we'd be taken to Blind People's Association, we thought it would be just waste of time! It'd be yet another NGO that would show us some of their work, and would demand some donation from us. But, fortunately, we were wrong. Instead, it proved to be a thought provoking, astonishing and unforgattable visit for all of us. Here's why: When we landed at BPA around 11 AM, their officials brought us to the conference hall. It was a good conference hall, well carpeted, fully Air Conditioned and ambience was also quite wonderful. A small introduction was provided initially and then we were made to play a game. It was very simple. They tied a black cloth on the eyes of each of us except five people, who were...

Training Needs Analysis and BCG Matrix - A Conceptual Write-Up

-

[A] INTRODUCTION: Training is about transfer of skills. It has its own strategic importance too. Training costs a lot too. Every penny spent (invested?) on training must be accounted for. It must generate enough ROI and must contribute substantially to the achievement of strategic objectives of the firm. I have come up with a conceptual framework (above) that tries to compare some elements of the BCG matrix to the training need identification.  Please note that not all the productivity related problems are solvable by the means of training. Employee performance has two dimensions, as you can see in the above matrix. [B] Discussion: One is "Will Do / Won't Do" (Attitude) and the other is "Can Do / Can't Do" (Skills).  Let us explore each dimension: 1. Can Do, Will Do: No actions are required for this type of employees. Such employees are like STARS of the BCG matrix! They CAN WORK and WANT TO WORK. As a manager, you are the happiest person to have these type...
