Career Counseling: Learning from the job interviews that could not be cracked

[A] Introduction: It is not possible to succeed in everything one does. The same applies to the employment / job interviews. And as we already know, the failures contribution to our learning is immense. Fundamentally, it is a tacit form of learning. The successful people convert it into the explicitly form of learning. This article gives out some tricks and tips, that you help the job seekers (primarily freshers) can use to learn from their mistakes in GD/PI.

[B] The steps to learn from the interviews you could not crack:

1. Write down everything right after the interview: The first thing you need to do is to write down everything right after the interview. The memory is generally fresh on the day of interview and it is important to put the whole experience, like how you entered the room, how you greeted the panel, what types of questions were asked, and what types of answers you gave, what dress did you wear, how was your body language (in your own eyes) etc. Make sure to write EVERYTHING in a descriptive way and not in a normative way. The result of the interview does not matter much. Please keep in mind that you are writing down everything so that you can use this information in future, to better prepare for future interviews. If you moderate your writing, or fail to mention the errors you have made, this writing will not be of much use.

2. See the pattern that emerges from such write-ups: Once you keep writing like this, you will have a kind of a "diary" of your anecdotes of job related interviews. These write-ups will combinedly allow you to see a "pattern" in your behaviour, during the job interviews. For example, you lacked confidence at the key moments, or you lacked consistency in your answers etc. This information can also a lot to your mentor as well, as this will reveal, what went inside the interview room, again and again, in different setups.

3. Make a strategy and practice to improve your job interview performance from the two points above: This may include things like you need to work your confidence, your communication skills etc. Discus the above two points related information with your mentor and seek inputs, as to how to deal with these developments. The faster you learn (please remember, you do not have too much time and you can't afford to make too many mistakes in job interviews to learn!), the better the results will be. It does not mean that you compromise on your quality of learning. But given the situation of rapid changes in work environment, it is imperative that you learn fast.

[C] Conclusion: In this small article, I tried to explain how one can learn from one's mistakes in the job related interviews and a roadmap was shown to come out of the same.
