Ego Management

Ego Management-A practical tool to handle the ego conflicts in the organization Pathik Variya & Janki Desai, Lecturers, Center for Management Studies, Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad [A] Introduction "Ego", a word, which we all are aware of, and a word, which has lots of importance in what, we ultimately are. We have to a tool to handle ego and we want to give it a name ...how about Ego Management? Looks good...Let's call it EM in short for practical purpose. Ego creates a lot of hurdles in our day to day professional as well as personal life. It reaches everywhere before we reach! A lot has been written about and a lot has been said, discussed, debated upon it too. It is not at all a new area to discuss further. But, I think, if we become conscious, we can definitely avoid its negative pitfalls. [B] Definition "EM is all about handling your ego and others' ego. If you can handle an ego-conflict such a way that the outcome is WIN-WIN, you have mastered the...

Is money important?

Based on www.vabhatt16.blogspot.com - entry of Jan 16, 2007 Life is how one perceives it to be.The words like satisfaction, happiness, growth etc. are only mapped in monetary terms by most of us [which so far includes me too].But, as Saint Karib has rightly written, "PANKI BADHE NAVSE, GHARSE BADHE DAM, DONO HATH ULECHIYE, VOHI SAJJANKA KAM", that is, A gentleman should THROW money out of home like a sailer would throw out water from his boat.Actually, we think, all our problems are solved by money. Partly, it may be true as money has the capacity to solve many problems, but then, how can we forget that each EXTRA rupee brings EXTRA problem with it too!Actually speaking, there are three ways to look at money in life. First is, think of those people, who live below poverty line [BPL]. They have to manage their food daily and have nothing like SAVINGS or PORTFOLIO etc!-the people who earn far less than us. Second is, people who are earning almost as much as us..typical middle-...

The show must go on...

Hmmm...Looks like I am relieved. Some things were really hurting me for last FEW MONTHS, which have ended now. Although, it was a bad incident from social point of view, I have really found it as a reliever. My faith and trust have been completely shaken due to this, but then, how can I allow my trust to break due to one incident? Although, this incident does challenge the way I think, the way I see the world, the way I take everyone on face value, the way I AM..... But, every cloud has a silver line, like that this particular incident did teach a lot of lessons. 1st, it taught me that the traditions, the social thoughts, are not baseless. 2nd, anything available easily or free, or before one deserves it, is not appreciated it, and that I should refrain from giving anyone anything that one does not deserve. 3rd, you cannot predict anything in life! Of course, I shall have to stay highly positive and should not allow this particular incident to generalize my experience. All people are n...

"SHANI"-It's all inside!

The planet "Shani" creates a Panoti. Recently, as it entered Virgo for next 2.5 years, I was a bit fascinated if it could affect me also. Incidently [I call it that way], I have been going through some testing times in my personal and professional life. Things are becoming a bit tough to handle. But as one recent beautiful SMS that I received, that whenever you see a challenge, always ask, why not me instead of not me. So, I am taking this as a learning opportunity. I wish that this Panoti teaches me a lot of things that I shall be able to utilize throughout the life. It's all about inside process. Like that famous example of a glass being half empty and half-full, it's ultimately the approach that finalizes how you move on. And then learning, inspiration, motivation etc. may come from various sources of life. From an ant to an atom bomb, everything in this world has something to offer, it is upto you how much and "WHAT" you accept. Recently, I have had a be...

Gandhigiri- Is it just a timely bubble or a new wave?

A lot of is being talked of about Lage Raho Munnabhai and Gandhigiri now a days. I am not here to give the preview of the movie. Assuming that you have already watched a movie, I would like to share my thoughts on this so called Gandnigiri and its effectiveness in today's era. To start with, I am not a fan of Gandhi neither I am his critic. I see Gandhi as a man who gave this world a tool/ a model to fight injustice. The non-violence way is, no doubt, a different tool which tries to change the soul of the person, thus making enemies friends and solving the problems from their roots. I compare this with Ayurveda, which also cures a disease from its roots. And, we all know how successful Ayurveda has been over a period of time. I think Gandhigiri or Gandhivad is also the one which solves a problem by its roots. But, a major drawback of this approach is that it is very slow at times. And so, it cannot be applied when fast results are needed or in case there is an emergency. Another as...

Attitude

This blog is based on the www.vabhatt16.blogspot.com [I had made a comment on this blog and posting it here as an entry] ================================ Recruiting, selecting and placing a right candidate at the right place looks very good on paper, but it's too tough to practice. Attitude is very subjective and it is something that has been an area of interest for researchers, academicians and even professionals too. We all know that attitude is the base of any candidate's true potential. But, what I have observed in this regards, is: 1. None of us has absolutely positive or negative attitude. It depends on the situation. For example, I am good at creativity, language, written-communication, analysis. But, I hate moving around, working under people in pressure to achieve targets and so on. So, let us say, that luckily I have found a job that suits my attitude, and that's why I am working very positively. On the other hand, a challenging job of marketing is to do, and I w...
